Happy New Year
|
 Once
again, Heights Arts' year ended with an empty gallery and full
stomachs. The gallery is empty because you shopped local arts
this holiday season, and let your local artists know that you value
their work. Our stomachs are full because Tommy cooks a great New
year's Day pancake breakfast, and you did tip lavishly!!!!!! Who
knew so many people had so much loose change on a snowy blowy New
Year's Day? Tommy,
a well-known angel, donated all the proceeds from the breakfast,
raffle, and tips to Heights Arts: $3745. Thanks to Isaac,
AJ and Rob for cooking on their usual day off and Ron the Flower Clown for his balloon artistry! Enjoy some pix here
So
THANK YOU. The past month would not have been possible without
the volunteers who inventoried and staffed the Holiday Store, keeping
it open 39 hours a week, or the volunteers who washed dishes, bussed
tables, and served pancakes with all the fixins. And a personal
thank you to Heights Arts staff, which includes Greta De Meyer, Elisa
Meadows, and Catherine Butler, for their patience, hard work, and more
than occasional hilarity.
Peggy Spaeth, Director

Heights Arts Gallery 2171 Lee Road, Cleveland Heights, Ohio 44118 216.371.3457
Longtime Cleveland Heights resident Brent Kee Young, head of the department of glass at the Cleveland Institute of Art, has not only been a teacher and mentor to a generation of glass artists, he has also explored the potential of the medium through his own work since the early 1970s. Heights Arts is honored to present the first retrospective exhibition of Young's career in a show featuring several examples of his stunning current work as well as representative pieces from every phase of his creative production. Young is an internationally known artist whose work is in the permanent collection of major museums such as the Smithsonian, Cleveland Museum of Art, Corning Museum, Butler, and others. The show includes both blown and layered glass and newer intricate flamework pieces composed of hundreds of threads of clear glass melted and fused together to create ethereal forms such as baskets and chairs that appear solid only by reflecting light.
