Thank You
When you voted for Issue 18, you put in motion creation of a fund of public monies dedicated solely for arts and culture in Cuyahoga County.  On Friday "Cuyahoga Arts and Culture (CAC) announced ... that it is awarding $15 million in General Operating Support (GOS) grants to 68 arts and cultural organizations located in the district."  (read more)

Grants were calculated from a formula based on an organization's budget for their most recently completed fiscal year and their score in an open panel review.  Based on our 2005-2006 budget of $149,000 and score of 85, we will receive $24,972 for the 2008 calendar year.  You can see what grants were awarded on a link on this page, and what organization's scores were here.

Many people ask us how we are funded.  Income is from individual and business donations, foundations, and earned income from tuition, sales of art, and admissions.  The addition of local public support for operating costs is a welcome one!  Public dollars well spent.  Thank you.

Project Support grants are due February 27.

Poetry Workshop with Lou Suarez
Tuesday, December 11 at 7 pm Lou Suarez
Heights Arts Studio
2340 Lee Road, Cleveland Heights
(west side of Heights Library bridge)
216.371.3457

Poetry exercises, like stretching exercises, can serve to increase a poet's flexibility and range. (Stretching exercises are also thought to prevent injury and reduce post-exercise muscle soreness, so the metaphor isn't perfect. But what
metaphor is?) Anyway, this two-hour class will explore the use of poetry exercises in one's writing routine and give participants an opportunity to write in response to one or two. Poets of all experience levels are welcome!

Lou Suarez is the author of one book of poems, Ask (Midlist Press) and three poetry
chapbooks: Losses of Moment (Kent State University Press), The Grape Painter (Frost Heaves Press), and On US 6 to Providence (Red Mountain Press).

$10 per person
